157 people have been detained by French police overnight during nationwide demonstrations against the killing of a 17-year-old adolescent by police last week.

According to local media, France has been rocked by protests ever since a police officer in the Paris district of Nanterre fatally shot Nahel M. on June 27 while conducting a traffic stop. Nanterre was the starting point for the protests, which then extended to Lyon, Toulouse, Lille, and Marseille.

Tomorrow, President Emmanuel Macron will meet with the mayors of the communities where violent crimes were committed.
